TIES THAT BIND
Volume 1, Issue 5, June 2000

Greetings to all that visit our site. Whether you are a quilter or not, welcome to QuiltSmiths.com.

We have had a summer full of activities. The First Annual Memorial Day Sale was a huge success. We are looking forward to the First Annual Independence Day Sale, which is only being announced here on the Web site, in which all in stock patterns, books, magazines and selected red, white and blue fabrics will be discounted 15%. Feel free to pass this heads-up along to your quilting buddies.

There will be a new look to the Web site evolving over the next few months. I finally got enough courage to buy HTML software and learn enough to attempt to maintain the site myself. Update information will be listed above TIES until we become accustomed to looking at the proper pages.

We want to mention here the names of all of our help in the shop, as I realize that I have failed to do so before. Yvette Chewning runs the Gammill and decorates the shop; Connie Douglass uses her day off from the Memphis Zoo to work with us on Mondays; Nancy Murray has recently begun working two days a week and will be teaching the Tussie Mussie applique class. Kathryn Donley uses her day off from her nursing duties to spend Saturdays de-stressing, and continues to teach our most popular piecing classes. Camille Vlasak teaches intermediate and advanced level classes when not home schooling her two sons and managing her husband¹s office. Keith Davis is another new instructor bringing two new, fun and fast techniques-you'll love it! Kay Thomas, Margaret Yopp, and Dana Lynch are expert quilters who come running when we call. Our accomplished accountant, Jessica Mann shows up unannounced whenever we are being blown out and pitches in. (How does she do that!) And, of course, Cristy Boothe is our resident artist and applique teacher. We are truly blessed to have the best staff anywhere.

New classes are in the works. I especially want to mention the photo transfer technique taught by Sandy Huszar, who is coming in from California in August. If you'd like to use photos in memory quilts, keepsakes or as gifts, Sandy has a method for you.

Current bolt count is 1831. We have new Christmas fabrics from Hoffman with beautiful pine cones, poinsettias and berries. Their new Christmas batiks are just gorgeous. New Moda fabrics have just arrived. New Moda marbles and marble mates in your favorite shades are ready for your next project. As we have come to expect, they are just wonderful. New from In The Beginning Fabrics, the Galaxy Stars collection and Cabbage Rose.

We have many new books, patterns, and notions to make your quilting projects fun and beautiful. We especially love the new templates from Marti Michell and Ardco (QuiltSmith, Ltd.).

I hope to see or hear from y'all soon. If you are outside the Memphis area, be sure to include QuiltSmiths in your summer travel plans. We are a few miles south of I-40 on the eastern side of Memphis.

Keep those needles flying, and may God bless you all as you pursue your stitching activities.
