TIES THAT BIND
Volume 2, Issue 4, October 2001

I am long past getting the fall newsletter posted. I apologize for the delay. I was putting it together in my mind after the Labor Day sale, when the Gammill started acting up. After fruitlessly trying to correct her problem myself, Rita and I decided to take a Tuesday and drive her in to the manufacturer for a tune-up and scheduled inspection/maintenance. We started early and had a pleasant drive until we stopped for breakfast in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The Perkins restaurant had on the radio, and the news was not good. That was on the eleventh of September. We went on up to West Plains, Missouri and dropped the machine off. And although we had a great lunch in a fifties-style diner right on the square in beautiful downtown West Plains, the day was depressing, and the trip suddenly more work than the fall cruise through the Ozarks we had planned. Needless to say, the newsletter has not been at the forefront of my mind. Let me suggest that all of you take the time to go to the Miami Herald web site and read the article by Leonard Pitts, Jr. entitled, "We'll Go Forward From This Moment". This says what I feel. And more importantly, in a much more eloquent manner than I could have at that time. NTA,LGSTO. (Be the first on your block to decipher the secret message, and win a yard of fabric.)

The Harvest Sale has just begun. Come on in for 30% off selected fabrics, including homespuns, Red Wagon plaids, brushed cottons, and a limited selection of Christmas fabrics including Thimbleberries Christmas Greetings, Hoffman, and Clothworks. Let me urge you all to come in. Christmas is only 55 days away. This year, let's give a piece of ourselves to those we love this year. Years from now, the lucky recipient of your lovingly made quilt project will remember 2001 as the year of the quilt, instead of the year of tragedy. And remember to put a label on the back!

The cool tool of the month is the Clover Thread Cutter Pendant. This can be worn on a chain or ribbon around the neck to cut threads. It can even be taken on airplanes.

Sheila Johnson, a new employee and instructor is offering a terrific class on a star shaped Christmas tree skirt. She will be scheduling it again before Christmas for anyone who missed it the first time around. Other new classes include Sheila's USA Flag wall hanging. It was a lot of fun and it will also be on the schedule again. Sheila will also be teaching the nine patch again. You should see her new sample in the Folk Art Christmas fabrics. Wow! The Yellow Brick Road pattern is also another new class that will be on the calendar soon. It is easy and looks great in many different colors. Check the Class Schedule here on QuiltSmiths.com for a complete and up to date list of all classes offered.

We look forward to the annual Quilt Till You Croak Retreat 2001 put on by the Uncommon Threads Guild on November 9, 10, & 11. The happy quilters will be delighted with non-stop fun, good food, and fellowship for the weekend. And of course QuiltSmiths will be there for the third year with packets, FQ's, goodies, notions, door prizes, and a few surprises.

If your local guild is within one hundred miles of Memphis, and you are having a retreat, let us know. If vendors are allowed, we would be interested in participating. Just e-mail us the particulars at qltsmith@bellsouth.net.

To our friends and customers, may God bless you all, in all that you sew and do. And to our enemies, may God grant you a harvest of the seeds that you have sown.
