TIES THAT BIND
Volume 3, Issue 5, November 2002
Fall is in the air and our thoughts have turned to the beautiful colors of the changing leaves and the holiday season that's just around the corner. We can help you find some inspiration whether you are finishing holiday projects or just thinking about starting something new.
Please try to drop by our shop during the month of December. On December 16th we will celebrate our three-year anniversary, and we'd like to thank you for shopping with us. Bring this letter with you for a one-time only discount on your entire ticket of 20%. It's our way of saying thanks! The discount is good from December 1st through December 24th. (This does not include quilting services or class fees). Many of our fabrics are on sale just in time for your holiday shopping!
Sheila and I just returned from Quilt Market in Houston. We were overwhelmed with all the beautiful quilts on display, as well as all the fabulous new fabrics, books, patterns, and notions. I don't know how the designers do it, but the fabric just gets better and better. New patterns and books are on the way. I think you'll like them as much as we do. Some of the new items have already started coming in, while others will come in over the next few months. There will always be something new at QuiltSmiths.
New fabrics in the shop are:
- Fantastic Felines by Laurel Burch for Clothworks in brights and pastels
- Folk Art Christmas III by Robyn Pandolph for Moda
- Bed of Roses by Robyn Pandolph for Moda
- Menagerie by Dena and Friends for In the Beginning
- Hoffman florals
- Hoffman Handpaints in new colors
- Material Resources II, grass, stones, water, brick, wood and trees
- Moda Essentials in new colors and designs
-Heather by Moda
Sheila and I are now certified to fit Roxanne Thimbles. We will gladly help you get the correct size Roxanne thimble, and unless you lose it, it will be the last thimble you will need to buy. We love ours!
We have a Gift Registry for all your wish lists. Let us know how to make holiday or birthday shopping easier for your loved ones. We also have gift certificates if you prefer.
New classes will be starting after Christmas, so get your machine tuned up and ready to go. Sheila will be teaching the Rise & Shine class again, and a new beginner machine applique we think you'll love. Iıll be teaching the Medley Opus class again, and Lynn will be teaching the Fantastic Fan Quilt, which can be partially machine pieced and hand appliqued, or completely hand pieced if you prefer. Lynn will also be teaching the Sunshine & Shadows quilt again. I'll also be offering the Double Wedding Ring made the easy way, of course, with Quiltsmart products. Lisa will be teaching the ABC's quilt from the book, "Little French Hen". Twisted Sisters by Ami Sims is a fun beginner quilt that Lisa will be teaching. In response to your requests for a class on the hankie quilt hanging in the shop, we will be offering a class on that quilt. Debi Kucsmas will teach a beginner baby quilt that will include making the top, machine quilting, and applying the binding. Debbie Matthews, one of our new instructors, will be offering a class we think you'll like called "Lemon Slices". If you need help with your holiday decorating, Debi will be teaching a class on quick and easy placemats this month. These are just a few of our new classes, but we have others in the works, so be sure to check our class list frequently. You can always check our web site or pick up a copy in the shop.
Starting December 1, we will begin accepting fat quarters for a fat quarter drawing to be held at the end of the month. Each time we receive new fabric shipments QuiltSmiths will put a new fat quarter in the basket. We've already started filling the basket with new arrivals! [Note: A fat quarter is a half yard cut in half, or 18" x 22"]. If you would like to be eligible to win, drop in a rolled fat quarter of 100% cotton, first quality, quilting weight fabric. On the outside of the fat quarter write your name, address and telephone number on a piece of paper and secure it with a rubber band or clear tape. On December 31st one lucky person will win all the fat quarters.
QuiltSmiths is pleased to offer beautiful heirloom machine quilting. If you would like to take a look at the samples or get an estimate, please drop by and we'll be glad to discuss the details.
When Sheila and I were in Houston we got a great tip that we'd like to share with you. It's not a quilting tip, but a great tip nevertheless. You'll really think itıs great if you ever have to go to the doctor or hospital when you are away from home. Type all your medications and their strength (mg), how many you take per day on the computer, and print out small enough to fit in a space about the size of a credit card. Be sure to include any over-the-counter medications, and any medications you are allergic to or other medical conditions. Take it to a copy center and have it cut to about the same size as your medical insurance I.D. card and have it laminated. It will be very handy any time you go to the doctor, but especially in an emergency. Make one for each member of your family and if an emergency does arise, you'll know the critical information is handy. Thanks Pat for the great tip!
Happy holidays,
Rita Smith
